Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD)

Unlike traditional medical approaches, which rarely look at the brain, Brain Enhancement Center uses the most sophisticated technology to go beyond the guesswork and delve directly into the root cause for targeted intervention for ADD/ADHD.

ADD/ADHD

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), also recognized as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent challenges with attention, and frequently, impulsive and hyperactive behavior. These difficulties often result in various behavioral issues, posing significant challenges in academic and professional settings, and impacting social development and peer interactions. ADD/ADHD is a growing national health crisis, yet it remains one of the most misunderstood and improperly treated illnesses today.

Who is affected by ADD/ADHD?

ADHD, is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults. The neural basis of ADHD is complex, involving various brain regions, neurotransmitter systems, and networks.  While the exact cause is not fully understood, several factors contribute to the neural foundation of ADHD.

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common neuro-developmental disorder in childhood.  According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 9.4% of children aged 2 to 17 have received a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD. Adding to the complexity, it's not uncommon for a child with this condition to also have a learning disorder, exacerbating the academic challenges they face. While the symptoms typically if ADD/ADHD emerge in childhood, untreated ADD/ADHD can persist into adulthood. The National Institute of Mental Health reports that 5.4% of adult men and 3.2% of adult women have ADD/ADHD, with research indicating that only about 20% of them have ever been diagnosed or received treatment. This condition is  often overlooked in females because their primary issue is inattention, and they are less likely to exhibit disruptive hyperactivity that is so often seen in males with ADHD.

Statistics reveal that 33% of children with ADD/ADHD do not complete high school (three times the national average), leading to lower-paying jobs. Another study found that children with untreated ADD/ADHD nearly doubles the likelihood of developing an alcohol use disorder or other substance abuse problem, and they tend to start using at an earlier age compared to other kids.

The frontal cortex, particularly the prefrontal cortex, plays a critical role in executive functions such as attention, impulse control, and working memory. Abnormalities in the structure and function of the frontal cortex are often observed in individuals with ADHD.

Individuals with ADHD often exhibit abnormalities in the structure and function of the frontal cortex. People with ADHD often show abnormal brainwave activity.

Neurotherapy offers a potential permanent solution for ADHD, proving to be more effective than pharmaceuticals in addressing the disorder (Farokhzadi et al, 2020).

At the Brain Enhancement Center, we conduct a qEEG assessment to examine the brain's function. This allows us to fully understand the individual's unique neural activity patterns and identify areas that may benefit from targeted neurotherapeutic interventions. We then utilize neurotherapy, a non-invasive, drug free approach, to stimulate and help you learn to change your brainwave activity to achieve your true potential.

At our Integrative Brain Enhancement Center, we offer comprehensive complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) solutions for those navigating life challenges through our non-invasive, drug-free approach: Our Signature 3-step Solution: Baseline, Balance, Boost, enhances the Brain, Mind and Body. By combining holistic evaluations with cutting-edge technologies such as brain mapping, neurotherapy, and neuromodulation, along with other personalized interventions, we empower individuals on their journey towards mental resilience and optimal well-being. As part of our approach, we conduct a qEEG assessment to examine the brain's function, allowing us to fully understand the individual's unique neural activity patterns and identify areas that may benefit from targeted neurotherapeutic interventions. We then utilize neurotherapy to stimulate and help individuals learn to change their brainwave activity to achieve their true potential and overall wellness.

Core Symptoms of ADD/ADHD

  • Hyperactivity (fidgeting, inability to stay seated, running or climbing in inappropriate situations, inability to play or engage in activities quietly, interrupting or intruding on others conversations or games, difficulty waiting for ones turn

  • Impulsivity (Impulsive decision making without considering consequences, difficulty inhibiting inappropriate emotional responses)

  • Inattention (trouble organizing tasks and activities, frequently losing items, easily distracted by extraneous stimuli, forgetfulness in daily activities)

  • Procrastination

  • Disorganization

  • Problems with follow-through

Untreated ADD/ADHD is associated with higher incidences of:

  • Depression

  • School drop out

  • Substance Abuse

  • Incarceration

  • Traffic Accidents

  • Job failure and unemployment

  • Financial Problems

  • Obesity

  • Divorce

  • Suicide
